The Petra Castellana Association

The Petra Castellana association, the association of preservation of the heritage of the Castellane region in all its forms, was founded in 1992 with the aim to achieve better understanding, preservation and provide better value of the local natural heritage and the territory’s memory.

The Petra Castellana association animates the Musée du Moyen Verdon located in the Maison Nature & Patrimoines. By means of exhibitions and publications, it attaches special importance to preserve and transmit local traditions as it gives life to the archaeological repository of Castellane.

The collection being entirely formed by the objects brought by the population, the already undertaken collection work still continues.

Many oral surveys have been carried out with witnesses, completed with archival research, architects’ statements, photographic surveys… The data collected contributes to a better understanding of skills related to objects, to a definition of their owners’ lifestyle as it contributes to a better understanding of the territory’s development.
