The Ecogardes Program

The Ecogardes program of the Parc Naturel Régional du Verdon was founded in 2002. Being a seasonal operation, it allows local elected representatives “to put a face” on the Parc and familiarize numerous visitors with the preciousness and fragility of the Verdon’s heritage.

During summer, mass tourism contributes to the deterioration of natural landscapes. The écogardes are there to welcome, inform and raise public awareness. They prevent incidents on dangerous routes, advise on the appropriate hiking equipment, establish visitor movement protocols, and ensure the watch of hiking trails.

Finally, the écogardes encourage visitors to discover other areas than the most frequented ones during other seasons. Taking part in the emergence of Verdon’s different image, they support all actors involved in sustainable development.

In July and August you will find them on the hiking trails as well as at the Parc Naturel Régional du Verdon’s Information Point in Castellane.
